As you can see, my grand father, Robert Asahi Chino was born from a Japanese father (Frank Chino) [ Note: I can't understand why his name is Frank! Any ideas, email me ] and an American woman Mercelia Hicks from Missouri.

The best I could trace on the Hicks, is that the first American teacher was a Hicks and that someone has traced back that line of Hicks to on the founders of Stamford, CT. (I think it is that town but I am not sure)

So how in the world I ended up being French?

Good question. Well, the answer is simple. World War II. I am not sure whether or not my grandfather ended up in internment camp in the US but he did end up in the 442nd Regimental Combat Team (his military records were in an area that was burned in a fire in 1972). There you have it! I am an 1/8 Japanese.
As a note, there is actually a town named Chino in Japan somewhere somewhere in the mountain (this might explain how I can be a Dominican that likes the mountain and the cold!)
